Resource Recycling Systems
Resources Recycling Systems (RRS) is an employee-owned recycling company headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Founded in 1986 by Jim Frey and a small group of recycling specialists, RRS emerged from the founders' pioneering efforts, which included launching Michigan's first curbside recycling program. Under the RRS banner, they expanded the scope of curbside recycling through innovative solid waste plans, advanced processing systems, and recycling initiatives. As RRS evolved, the company broadened its focus to include food waste, compostable materials, and recyclable packaging. The company creates solutions for circular economy and sustainable materials management that benefit businesses, communities, and future generations.
In 2025, Resource Recycling Systems became employee-owned when they implemented an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). This transition aligns incentives for employees, their stakeholders, and the border community.
