Established in 1964, Sea-Land Chemical Company started as a small business by John Hetchler. Since its humble beginnings, Sea-Land has evolved and grown to support market demands and adapt to changing industry conditions.
In 1991, Sea-Land Chemical Company became an employee-owned company when established its Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). The process to convert to an employee ownership structure started in the 1980s as a succession plan for John Hetchler who was looking to retire. He decided to sell the company to his employees which created a foundation for an ownership culture that remains to this day. Today, Sea-Land Chemical Company continues to expand its operations. In 2015, the company was named the 29th largest chemical distributor in North America.
