The company was founded in 1935 by Robb and Beatrix Sagendorph with the mission of “expressing and perhaps preserving our great New England culture.” Yankee Publishing Incorporated (YPI) is an independent media company dedicated to creating exceptional products that serve their customers and enrich their communities. As the publisher of influential publications like Yankee Magazine, The Old Farmer’s Almanac, New Hampshire Magazine, New Hampshire Home, NH Business Review, and Family Tree Magazine, among others, YPI has its roots in traditional print publishing. In the past two decades, they have substantially expanded their presence in the digital realm through social media and content-rich websites dedicated to their publications. Yankee Custom Marketing (YCM) is responsible for crafting custom content, both in digital and print, for its clients. 

In 2019, Yankee Publishing became employee-owned when they implemented an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
